Day 87

Old Chicago brick. We had seen snippets of our Old Chicago brick, when they installed the soldier trails over the windows and sills beneath the windows. Then, we saw the “apron” they made of Old Chicago on the outside of the master bathroom, and we were in love. We could not wait to see the front porch, done in all of its Old Chicago glory.

The brick masons needed more of the Old Chicago, since the initial delivery of bricks didn’t have any of the green colors that we picked out to be a highlight. There was a delay last week with the delivery. Luckily my builder was onsite when they did deliver the bricks, because they were the wrong ones. He told them to just take those right back to the brick yard, and bring the correct ones. We lost another day with that mess. He actually went up to the brick yard at 5:45 the next morning to make sure they put the correct ones on the truck.

Then, we had some rain delays. But finally, they were able to put up the brick on the front porch, as well as the apron of brick on the friend entry. It looks so good!

It is even more colorful than I anticipated, but Rebecca loves it like that. There are even some purple, black and yellow colors mixed into the brick. You can only see that when you get up close. There is one florescent orange brick that I really don’t care for and will probably be scraping off soon.

Stay tuned to find out what color we are painting all of the rest of the brick (the dark red brick in the other posts).

Until next time…
