Day 84

Even more brick. The brick masons took off Sunday (can’t blame them) and were going to start back Monday, but it was snowing. Turns out, you cannot lay brick in those conditions. The mortar won’t set up with it being so cold. The same thing happened Tuesday, when it barely got over 30 all day.

Yesterday, I showed you how the brick masonry started off. Wednesday, they were back at it, making some significant progress. On the garage side of the house (north by northwest), they finished the brick all the way up to the eaves in a couple of places. They even got the soldier trail above the laundry room window and the small door to my workshop.

We could not be happier with how the Old Chicago antique brick looks! We love the stuff! We can’t wait to see how it looks all underneath the front porch! That is the same brick that we will use for the columns and arch on the inside of the house as well.

Unfortunately, it rained last night and is still raining today, so they will not be able to work on the brick. We had hoped that they could be done with all of the brick on the exterior of the house by mid-day Saturday, but that might be pushed back just a little bit.

On another note, they should be done with the final sanding and patching of the sheet rock by later today or tomorrow. That is exciting, because the trim carpenter will be ready to go Monday. Now, we just need to get all of the wood for the cabinetry delivered so he is not waiting on it.

Until next time…
